Welcome to Springfield, Illinois! If you choose to use the City’s complimentary internet access, you are agreeing to comply with and be bound by the following terms and conditions of use.   LIABILITY

The use of any information or materials on sites you access is entirely at your own risk. The City of Springfield will not be held liable for any actions taken by the user or any liability caused by, arising out of, or related to the use of this complimentary service

  PROHIBITED CONTENT AND ACTS

The City of Springfield reserves the right to investigate or remove User content transmitted via the City's network connection which the City of Springfield determines, in its sole judgment, to be offensive, illegal or might violate the rights, harm or threaten the safety of others or otherwise violate these Terms of Service. The City also reserves the right to ban or limit access to the City’s network connection for violating the following User content provisions.

The following is a list of the types of User content that is prohibited from transmission through the City’s online services (this includes transmission through third-party software applications). This is only a partial list and additional content may be subject to removal or investigation at the discretion of the City:

  • Material which is profane, obscene or pornographic.
  • Material which is abusive, discriminatory or hateful on account of race, national origin, religion, age, gender, disability, or sexual orientation.
  • Threats, personal attacks, harassment or advocating harassment of another person.
  • Solicitations or advertisements.
  • Potentially libelous statements or material.
  • Impersonating any person or entity or falsely misrepresenting your affiliation with any other person or entity.
  • Material that illegal in nature.

The City of Springfield reserves the right to limit access to Users committing certain prohibited actions via the City’s network connection which the City of Springfield determines, in its sole judgment, to be offensive, illegal or might violate the rights, harm or threaten the safety of others or otherwise violate these Terms of Service.

The following is a partial list of the kind of User actions that are prohibited from transmission through the City’s online services (this includes transmission through third-party software applications). This is only a partial list and additional actions may be subject to removal or investigation at the discretion of the City:

  • Attempt to access devices or resources to which you have no explicit, legitimate rights.
  • Behavior invasive of another person’s or entity’s privacy.
  • Copy, reproduce or transmit any copyrighted, patented, trademarked, service marked, trade secret, or other proprietary material or information other than in accordance with the requirements and allowances of the rights holder.
  • Launch network attacks of any kind including but not limited to port scans, DoS/DDoS packet floods, replays or injections, session hacking or interception, or other similar activity with malicious intent.
  • Knowingly transmit malicious software such as viruses, Trojan horses, and worms.
  • Taking any action which may disrupt the operation of the Service.
  • Surreptitiously install software or make configuration changes to any device or application by means of the installation or execution of key loggers, registry keys, or other executable or active application or script.
  • Acts that are illegal in nature.

The City reserves the right to monitor traffic in order to ensure that these and other terms and conditions of use are being followed.

Unauthorized use of resources through this service may give rise to a claim for damages and/or may constitute a criminal offense subject to investigation by the appropriate authorities.

  PRIVACY AND PERSONAL SECURITY

The City of Springfield is dedicated to providing quality complimentary internet access while protecting the User’s personal information.

By accepting these terms and conditions, the User consents to the City collecting personal information including but not limited to date of access, browser used, and technical internet protocol data. The purpose of this data collection is to identify trends in usage so that the City may provide better service.

Any additional personal information regarding the user will be collected ONLY if voluntarily provided by the User. This information may be voluntarily provided via an e-mail to the City or its authorized agents, survey, or any other reasonable transaction with the City or its authorized agents. This information will only be used for the purposes of completing a transaction agreed to by the User.

  GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The User shall use the access provided in a responsible manner and with full regard for the safety, security, and privacy of other users, devices and resources.

These terms and conditions are subject to change without notice other than posting on this page.

The City does not endorse or promote any website or service accessed or referenced through this complimentary access. Any information provided by or linked to via this service is the sole responsibility of the content provider.
